HOME SWEET HOME

About: NINA BRACKETT: I’m just a wife and mom who discovered that her love for paper crafting could extend beyond card making and into product design 2.5 years ago when I started illustrating for a stamp company. I was born in the Philippines, educated in the US and now live in a small town in Croatia, where my husband and I are in full-time Christian ministry. I studied Biology in college and am still a science geek at heart. I’m fortunate enough to have traveled extensively to many places in the world. My experiences in these different cultures and my love for God’s creation as a Biologist have made me a keen observer of beautiful things around me. I’m drawn to the soft, feminine and vintage style, but with simplicity in mind (as a busy mom to 3 young girls, I always strive for quick but beautiful projects). I like to call my style “simple shabby.” Despite my frequent travels, I am a homebody and consider the experiences I share at home with my family and friends to be the best in the world.

My paper crafted projects have been published in several print publications, including Paper Crafts, Cards, Scrapbooks, Etc and CardMaker Magazines. I love making cards and hand-crafted gifts (e.g., notebooks, wall hangings, etc.) to give away. I teach in our small town regularly as a way to reach out to the women in the community. It's a rewarding work because I get to do it with my girls.

I joined the paper crafting community in 2009 when I started my blog (http://ninabdesigns.blogspot.com/). I have since worked for several stamp companies (Layers of Color, The Craft’s Meow, Gina K Designs, The Angel Company and There She Goes Stamps) and for Spellbinders Dies as a product designer. Spellbinders Paper Arts just recently released my first licensed designs, Sewing Elements and Home Sweet Home. And I am excited and grateful that I have joined the Want2Scrap team, both as a product designer and as a DT member. I look forward to showcasing their beautiful products to you all!

We are thrilled to have her as a part of the Want2Scrap family! You can check out her blog at: http://ninabdesigns.blogspot.com/

In the Doghouse with Want2Scrap Designer: Elise

In spite of the expression, “you’re
in the dog house!”
- A derogatory implication… THIS, is one dog house,
you and your adorable puppy friend will enjoy…..!

You’re probably busy thinking you’ve
seen EVERYTHING
in the chipboard album isle of the fantastic Want2Scrap©
store…. But MAYBE you over-looked a few… {Cough!}
Because, friends – it’s a menagerie of shapes, sizes and
infinite possibility! We HAVE a chipboard album for EVERYONE!
~ WHAT a selection!~
And just a few thousand additional items to play with…

Let me SHARE how I upgraded this puppy mansion
from fine to FABULOUS, with a whoosh of paint and
a glorious smattering of BLING!

1) Buck-naked CHIPBOARD – a sight to behold!2) Low tack masking tape to ensure accurate lines between color.3) A little planning with some basic color theory -
the BRIGHTEST wall painted first.

4) A mixture of white with brown and black
for some realistic, cast shadow…

5) More masking for darker cast shadow

6) Blue, green and brown Eco Green Paint
to create a pleasing blue roof – not the highlighted
section where the light source would shine directly…

One aspect of Want2Scrap’s© line of chipboard albums and
embellies that I DEARLY love, is the fantastic detail! LOVE
the laser cut lettering, detail in the architecture, & shape!
So FUN & easy to customize and bring to an even glitterier,
and be-dazzled level of fabulousness! I had a fantastic time
with BOTH! Check out the details!

1) From the back side of the front cover, use scrapbooking tape
to close off the back side.2) From the front, the tacky surface will hold glitter in place.3) Add glue and additional glitter if desired.

4) Repeat steps 1 – 3 to embellish words, adding silver
rhinestones to the centers of the “o” letters, placing
the bling, prior to the addition of glitter or glue.

5) Carefully add glue to the centers of each letter,
avoiding the blingy bits.

6) Using a pin, lead glue around the bling.

7) Add glitter.

8) Remove excess glitter, when dry.

Position a photograph, so that it appears “in” the dog house.

Plan paper and bling embellishments, as desired.

Using strips from some black, Nestabling™ Pennants shapes,
I blinged out the doggy-door! Start with long strips until the
arch begins, then work in small strips of 3 – 4 baubles-o-bling
at a time.

For a fun, customized accent, I embellished a punched circle
with this delicious, blingy circle from Donna Salazar’s Sprightly
Sprocket collection…. Mmmm, hmmmm, still WORKS for a
boy dog… Just sayin’…. {!} What a dog collar!?! Super-fun!

What was that you asked? WHO, who, WHO
let the dog out? That would be ME! I sure
hope you enjoyed romping through Want2Scrap©
play land! Treat yourself to a good, long trip
through the isles of Want2Scrap© – you’ll be
GLAD you did! Enjoy!

Guest Designer: Allie’s Gower and Her Mad Hatter Album

I’m glad to be back guest designing my second project this month. Although you know me as Allie, it’s a nickname for Alice. I was named for my GiGi, my Great Grandmother. As an Alice, I fell in love with this Mad Hatter chipboard book with you. I’ve seen several Alice movies, read the book, participated in Alice swaps, I just love Alice! Want2Scrap™ has a number of amazing chipboard books and products but given the opportunity, I just had to choose this one.

To begin with, I painted all the pages with Claudine Hellmuth studio paint. I used Perma Tac in my Glue Glider Pro to adhere all the pages. I sanded the edges of each page to give a uniform, distressed look.

I’ve listed the supplies I used on each of the pages. I cut several sets of Funky Swirls – Silver Rhinestones to use with the flowers and leaves. The leaves were die cut and scored on the Scor Pal and then crumpled and inked using Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink from Ranger.

Supplies used on the cover:

I had a lot of fun creating this book. I plan to add some pages in between the chipboard pages for journaling, and adding some photos throughout the year. There are also some envelopes for holding lists and quotes on some of the pages. I enjoy swaps, and exchanging art with others, so it’s nice to have a record of those activities.
Thanks for looking today, I enjoyed being guest designing for Want2Scrap™ this month.
